Legal Editor

The Legal Editor position is for lawyers who want a nontraditional career involving legal research and book editing.

  • Job type: Full-time
  • Working hours: 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Location: Houston, Texas

Duties:

  • Verify accuracy and ensure quality of all content in assigned books, including substantive cite analysis.
  • Ensure use of proper editorial style and cite form.
  • Research legal issues and edit book text when necessary.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, development, and related activities.
  • Respond to inquiries from management, as well as production, sales, and marketing personnel.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from ABA-approved law school.
  • Strong editing background, preferably on law review or other law-related journal.
  • Solid research skills, analytical ability, and editorial judgment.
  • Familiarity with Bluebook citation rules.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Westlaw, and other online applications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work without constant supervision.
  • Applicants must complete an editing test before a second interview can be scheduled
